Echoes of Norway—Crafting a Shamanic Soundscape for Espresso Dreams

Echoes of Norway—Crafting a Shamanic Soundscape for Espresso Dreams

I was originally going to focus on just the two opening shots in the windy fields and work towards something ambient, but once I stumbled on the sounds of shaman mumbles, a story emerged — something foreboding, brewing — and the edit grew from there.

Scrolling through footage collecting shots I thought might help form a narrative, I found a few of an espresso cup from above with a hand slowly stirring, and those became the line which could hold all the others together.

There's a nice moment of suspense in the beginning when it's only the cup with coffee slowly turning, as if mid thought, waiting for something to happen.

The slow build of voices when the spoon makes a circle and the landscape rotating, as if it's in the cup, all build to sustained notes which follow a long road that stretches far into the horizon.

I needed a resolve so I added a shot of the ocean, the coastline. This formed the end of the journey — made more dramatic with horns and waves — but it's the closing shot that really pulls everything together as the cup is gently turned back into place, marking the end of a moment.
